It's November so that means it's time for Thanksgiving again;Â I don't know about you but I love food and being around family.Â
Today while at work I was thinking to myself who all celebrates Thanksgiving and why? Do we all celebrate it for the same reasons, do we call it the same thing, do we eat the same foods well I am here to tell you those things.   Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in Canada, The United States, some Caribbean Islands, and Liberia. Japan and Germany have Festival Harvests.    In Germany this festival is usually held in October giving thanks for a good year and good fortune.Â
Japan calls their harvest festival Niinamesai, which is the celebration of hard work on November 23rd.   Arising from the same origins as the European harvest festival The United States first celebrated in 1879 in honor of English explorer Martin Frobisher and his fleet's safe travels; But in 1957 Parliament moved this to November 3rd declaring it to be a day of "General Thanksgiving" which Canada observes on the second Monday of October.    A variation of America's Thanksgiving is also found in the West African nation of Liberia.   The most common foods feasted on are turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn.Â
As you can see we all share several of the same traditions throughout the entire world.Â
